Not a generic checklist — the questions that actually separate a real plush mill from a trading company, learned from inside a Changshu fleece factory.
Plush and fleece fabrics are not like ordinary flat textiles. A coral fleece roll can look identical in two photos yet feel completely different in hand — pile height, brushing, weight and shedding are invisible on a screen. That is why choosing the right plush or fleece fabric manufacturer matters more than the price list, and why the usual "check the certificates" advice is not enough for this category.
For plush fabric specifically, the difference is decisive, because quality is made in the finishing line — raising, shearing, brushing, heat-setting — not at the knitting stage. Ask directly:
In the plush industry, most quality complaints — shedding, uneven pile, shade bands across rolls — originate in finishing. The factory that owns the line is the factory that can fix it.
Adapt the standard scoring to what actually goes wrong with plush fabrics:
"Fleece" is not one product. Coral fleece (珊瑚绒), flannel, PV velour, lamb wool, rabbit fur fleece and faux shearling each need different machines and finishing. A mill that makes one type well may be mediocre at another.
Plush fabric weight is quoted in GSM, but two rolls at the same GSM can feel completely different depending on pile height and brushing. Ask for the GSM plus a physical swatch before you trust a number. If a supplier hesitates to send samples, walk away — plush fabric simply cannot be judged from photos.
This is the #1 complaint category for plush and pet fabrics. Ask: has this fabric been tested for shedding, and can you share a test report for this lot, not a showroom sample? A serious plush mill tests shedding and pilling as standard on brushed fabrics.
Plush fabric is dyed in batches, and shade can vary between lots. Ask how many rolls of the same color they can deliver with a single dye lot, and what their shade tolerance is. For blankets and pet beds — products where color is a selling point — this matters a lot.
Ask for the golden sample process: the sealed reference sample that the bulk production is matched against. A factory that keeps a golden sample and inspects against it is doing professional quality control. One that says "don't worry, it will be the same" is not.
Custom plush fabric typically takes 15–30 days from sample confirmation and deposit, depending on dyeing and finishing. Ask who manages your account and how fast they respond — slow communication at inquiry stage predicts slow problem-solving during production.
MOQs for plush fabric work differently from cotton. The realistic picture:
Tip: tell the supplier your quantity, end use and target price before asking for samples. It changes the answer you get, and it separates serious buyers from sample collectors.
Standard terms in this industry are a 30% deposit, balance against shipping documents (or T/T before shipment). Walk away if you see:
Most guides assume container-sized orders. If you are a small brand or a pet-product startup, small-batch production is possible — pick a mill with stock or small-batch capability, be precise about quantity and colours, and expect to pay a little more per kg.
